Tolerance, Equality, and Awareness Movement (TEAM)
File under: Reporting Rape
Purpose: For the awareness of reporting rape and the steps to take in doing so:
Steps to take in the event of a rape:
• Go to the hospital and get a rape kit as soon as possible after the rape.
• Make a police report, it does not have to be prosecuted just because you made the report, but it can be if you decide to at some point.
• Write down an account of what happened and store it in a safe place for evidence if you decide to prosecute.
• Put any bed sheets, underwear, or anything semen may have gotten on in paper bags in case you want to prosecute (plastic bags ruin evidence).
There should be a social worker or psychologist called to the hospital when they do the rape kit, but if they don’t go to the hospital, there are help lines and agencies with people trained to help with the mental effects of rape.
As always, TEAM respects your privacy in all issues. Report any cases to us immediately. Thank you.
